The tumultuous Cyberpunk 2077 saga continued last week when the game was delayed for the third time this year, and after CDPR specifically said “no more delays” emphatically after the last one.
The game has been postponed from November 19 to December 10, citing concerns about ensuring the game works properly on next-gen and next-gen hardware, as well as PC and Stadia.
That led more than a few fans to breathe a sigh of relief, given that other games come out in that same window, where two next-gen consoles are released. To recap, here is the list:
November 10: Xbox Series X / S launch
November 10 – Assassin’s Creed Valhalla
November 10 – Destiny 2: Beyond Light
November 10 – Next Gen Borderlands 3 Patch / New Skill Trees
November 10 – Yakuza: Like a Dragon
November 11: Genshin Impact 1.1 patch.
November 12 – PS5 Launch
November 12 – Spider-Man Miles Morales
November 12 – Demon’s Souls
November 12 – Godfall
November 13 – Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War
All of that led to a “drop it all” point for many gamers on November 19 when Cyberpunk arrived, but now there’s a lot more room to breathe and a lot less coming out in mid-December.
Which games on this list benefit the most from this change? I think there is really only one that stands out to me especially.
That would be Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, which is easily the “biggest” game on this list as an AAA AC offering. Even if Ubisoft has said it’s not as big as Odyssey, that doesn’t say much given the massive scope of that game.
There’s others important Games on this list that are certainly glad Cyberpunk is moving, but it’s not the same. Call of Duty Cold War will be huge, but its campaign won’t last more than a few hours and then it’s just a matter of how long you want to play multiplayer. Spider-Man Miles Morales will be a must-have game on PS5, but it’s not a “complete” game, more like Uncharted Lost Legacy, so you probably won’t spend more than 50 hours on it. Destiny 2’s new expansion is big, but Bungie generally distributes content over the course of a few months rather than having a ton of stuff at launch (though it does benefit from the debut of its new raid which is no longer two days after Cyberpunk).
But Assassin’s Creed Valhalla felt it was a game that could have been lost in the confusion. It’s already a crowded field, but once Cyberpunk appeared, it took over the “sprawling open-world RPG” slot with a title that, frankly, is much more coveted by players than another Assassin’s Creed game, even if the series has changed. a corner and it’s been pretty good lately.
We went from nine days of playing Assassin’s Creed Valhalla after launch to now a full month, which given all these other options, is at least a significant amount of time to put into it. My original plan was probably going to be to put Valhalla aside until December or even next year, but now? I will definitely play it in the launch window, given that I am sure I can finish it before Cyberpunk arrives now, when it was almost impossible before. And I hope I’m not alone
