Cyberpunk 2077’s upcoming multiplayer mode will feature in-game microtransactions and monetization, and CDPR is taking a novel approach to in-game purchases. Instead of making money and weakening players, CDPR wants to inspire some joy when you spend money on in-game content. No details have been detailed on how the digital economy will work in multiplayer CP2077, but the company says there will be no aggressive monetization and mTX will not bother fans.
“We won’t be aggressive, but you can expect great things to be bought,”Adam Kicinski said in a recent earnings call.
“The goal is to design monetization in a way that people are happy to spend money. I am not trying to be cynical or hide something; it is about creating a sense of value. As with our single player games: we want players to be happy while spend money on our products.
The same goes for microtransactions – you can expect them, of course, and CP is a great arena to sell stuff, but it won’t be pushy; It won’t annoy the players, but it will make them happy, at least that’s our goal. “

This reflects other sentiments described by the company.
In November 2019, CFO Piotr Nielubowicz said that Cyberpunk 2077’s multiplayer would be wisely monetized.
“The project is in relatively early stages. We are still experimenting, it is our first multiplayer game and we are checking different options and possibilities. It is definitely not the time to point in a certain direction.” CD Projekt RED CFO Piotr Nielubowicz said in a Q3 2019 earnings call.
“You can expect us not to change our general policy towards fair deals with players, so expect smart monetization and always good value for money.”
Cyberpunk 2077’s multiplayer is expected to be a great AAA experience and will be developed in-house by the same team that worked on the Cyberpunk 2077 single-player experience.
The multiplayer is expected to launch sometime in 2022, probably after the full CP2077 experience has been completed with post-launch expansion content.
