Ties to smartphones haven’t had a great year – the Nokia 8.3 5G was released earlier in the year to coincide with the new Bond movie, No Time To Die, which was subsequently delayed for over a year and is now a special La A version of the OnePlus 8T with the theme of the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 game seems set to launch soon, despite a recent delay for the game.
On Chinese social media site Weibo, OnePlus stated that the OnePlus 8T Cyberpunk 2077 edition, first announced at the 8T launch, will have its own presentation on November 2. We initially heard that the phone would be in ‘pre-sale’ as of November 4. But I didn’t know that the phone would have its own launch event.
It is not clear if this is a global launch or only in China; the communication format would suggest the latter. If you’re excited for this phone and don’t live there, you might find it easier to buy the standard OnePlus 8T, buy a themed case, and install a custom wallpaper to get the same feeling.
However, someone may need to tell OnePlus that Cyberpunk 2077 has been delayed again, and the release date was pushed back to mid-December. We were expecting the game to launch in November, although before that we were told in September and before that April, so we should have seen a delay.
Either way, this means that the OnePlus 8T Cyberpunk 2077 edition will be available more than a month before the game.
What is a Cyberpunk phone?
We haven’t really heard too many details about how the Cyberpunk 2077 phone differs from the standard OnePlus 8T, beyond one key thing: the design.
Some cryptic images show that the CyberPunk 2077 OnePlus 8T has a black design with yellow highlights, in the same style as much of the promotional material for the game.
We haven’t heard anything about the specs or the power of the camera yet. If we were to risk an assumption based on other smartphone entertainment links, we would expect it to be very similar to the base device but with a different design and perhaps a special wallpaper with the theme of the game.
Would OnePlus host a full launch event just to fully reveal what is basically the same phone? Maybe not, so maybe there are more differences here.
