CD Projekt RED Chairman and Co-CEO Adam Kiciński has addressed the studio’s recent period of crisis to Cyberpunk 2077.
In a recent call with investors, Kiciński spoke about the six-week crisis period, especially since the study previously said it would adopt a “non-mandatory crisis policy.” Asked if the latest delay in the game would ease the pressure on the development team, Kiciński said the period “wasn’t that bad, and it never was.”
“Of course it is a story that has been picked up by the media, and some people have been cracking a lot, but a large part of the team is not cracking at all since they finished their work,” he added.
Kiciński explained that the smaller team is “happy” about the delay in the game and the extra time to finish their work. “[It’s] mainly about questions and answers and engineers, programmers, but it’s not that heavy; of course, it will expand a bit, but we have feedback from the team; they are happy with the three additional weeks so we don’t see any threat regarding the crisis. “
Kiciński was also asked if the recently announced three-week lag period is enough time for the studio to fix all the game’s problems. He said the game is already in release status and could have met its planned release date of November 19, but that the additional three weeks would give the team additional time to make changes and fixes.
“The first impression is crucial and, in the long run, doing some things that would not have been done in time for the 19 will work in our favor,” he added. “We feel – maybe not comfortable, but confident and we’re launching the 10th. [of December]. “
During the call, Kiciński also confirmed that the PC and the next-gen version of the game are now ready for release. “[We] have the game ready on PC and it works great on both next-gen consoles, “he said. “We are finalizing the process in the current generation.”
The investor call comes just a day after the company announced it was delaying Cyberpunk 2077 for the third time, from November 19 to December 10. Following the postponement, Kiciński revealed that the CD Projekt RED team had received death threats due to the delay.
