The number of COVID-19 infections in Africa reached 2,092,279 on Wednesday, as several countries continue to report steady increases in their number of cases.
According to the African Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the continent has also reported 50,296 deaths.
No country in Africa has been more affected by the pandemic than South Africa. The country has registered 772,252 infections and 21,083 deaths. This represents 36.91 percent of the continent’s cases and 41.92 percent of its deaths.
Apart from South Africa, the only other African countries that have recorded more than 100,000 COVID0-19 infections are Morocco (331,527), Egypt (113,742) and Ethiopia (106,591).
In terms of deaths, ten countries in Africa, including South Africa, have recorded more than 1,000 COVID-19-related deaths.
Data from the CDC of Africa also shows that the number of patients who have successfully recovered from the disease stood at 1,771,334 as of Wednesday afternoon.
