The number of confirmed COVID-19 infections in Africa stood at 1,379,909 on Friday, as the continent continues to see an increase in its number of cases.
The latest figures from the African Centers for Disease Control and Prevention also show that the continent has also reported 33,403 deaths so far.
South Africa is the most affected country on the continent, with 655,572 cases and 15,772 deaths.
The figures represent 47.5 percent of Africa’s cases and 47.2 percent of its deaths.
Egypt is the second most affected country in Africa, with 101,641 infections and 5,715 deaths.
The two countries are the only ones in Africa to have recorded more than 100,000 COVID-19 cases.
Later, Morocco (94,504), Ethiopia (66,913) and Nigeria (56,735) are the only other African countries that have reported more than 50,000 infections.
In terms of deaths, Morocco (1,714), Algeria (1,654), Nigeria (1,093) and Ethiopia (1,060) are the only other African countries that have recorded more than 1,000 deaths in addition to South Africa and Egypt.
In better news, Africa has reported a total of 1,131,838 successful recoveries as of Friday.
