The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Africa stood at 1,353,283 on Monday, as some countries on the continent begin to see a decline in new daily infections.
The latest figures released by the African Centers for Disease Control and Prevention also showed that the continent has reported 32,625 deaths.
South Africa continues to be the most affected country on the continent, having registered 649,793 infections and 15,447.
The figures represent 48 percent of the continent’s number of cases and 47.3 percent of its deaths.
Globally, the number of cases from South Africa is the eighth highest.
Egypt is the second most affected country in Africa, with 101,009 confirmed cases and 5,648 deaths.
Apart from the two most affected, no other country in Africa has recorded more than 100,000 confirmed infections.
Apart from the two, only Morocco (86,686), Ethiopia (64,301) and Nigeria (56,256) have reported more than 50,000 cases of COVID-19.
Later, 10 African countries in total have recorded more than 20,000 infections.
However, on the bright side, the continent had reported 1,090,676 successful recoveries on Monday.
