ADDIS ABABA, Sept.6 (Xinhua) – The African Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC of Africa) said on Tuesday that the death toll from the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic rose to 31,056 across the African continent. as the number of positive cases increased to 1,291,724.
The specialized health care agency of the African Union Commission (AU) said the number of COVID-19 recoveries on the continent reached 1,031,453.
Total COVID-19 cases in Africa accounts for about five percent of all reported cases globally, it said.
Africa’s CDC said on Friday that nine African countries, including South Africa, Ethiopia and Libya, accounted for about 81 percent of new COVID-19 cases reported during the past week. ■
