ADDIS ABABA, April 3 (Xinhua) – The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Africa reached 4,252,676 as of Saturday noon, the African Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC Africa) said.
Africa’s CDC, the African Union (AU) specialty health care agency, said the death toll related to the pandemic amounted to 113,429, while 3,800,130 patients across the continent have recovered from the disease.
South Africa has lost 52,964 lives to COVID-19, the most among African countries, followed by Egypt, with 12,084, and Morocco, with 8,835, according to the Africa CDC.
Southern Africa is the worst affected region in terms of confirmed cases, followed by North Africa and East Africa.
Central Africa is the least affected African region in terms of confirmed COVID-19 cases.
Five countries account for about 65 percent of all reported cases in Africa. These five African countries are South Africa, Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt, and Ethiopia.
According to the Africa CDC, the African continent accounts for 4.1 percent of the total COVID-19 cases reported globally.
