AMD recently unveiled its latest RX 6700 XT entry and it looks like a close competitor to the RTX 3060 Ti, but is it worth paying more?
AMD The new RX 6700 XT GPU is a close competitor to the Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti. Only its robust specs outperform Nvidia’s offering in almost every respect, but there are other factors to consider as well. AMD teased the arrival of the latest member of its RX 6000 GPU lineup last month.
Fast forward a couple and the RX 6700 XT will finally be unveiled, along with the claim that it will. “Redefine 1440p gaming. “ AMD says the RX 6700 XT “Hit the mark” for the category; which is capable of delivering twice the performance in certain games compared to current previous generation cards and is capable of running some titles at more than 165 frames per second (FPS). AMD’s latest addition sounds promising on paper, but Nvidia’s RTX 3060 Ti is also not far behind, especially given the updates it received over its predecessor.
There’s a nearly $ 100 price difference between the two GPUs, so it’s important to understand how that translates into specs. The RX 6700 XT comes with 40 more compute units compared to the 38 of the RTX 3060 Ti. AMD’s offering also has higher 12GB GDDR6 memory, 2.42Ghz base clock speed and up to 2.58Ghz clock speed, while the RTX 3060 Ti has less 8GB GDDR6 RAM, along with equivalents of base and boost clock speeds of 1.41 GHz and 1.67Ghz, respectively.
AMD RX 6700 XT vs. Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti Features
The additional capacity of the RX 6700 XT is priced higher, but the additional features of the new AMD GPU possibly justify the considerable difference. AMD Anti-Lag reduces input response times, while Radeon Boost dynamically adjusts resolution to increase performance, leading to smoother gameplay with higher potential FPS rates. While the RX 6700 XT has the ultimate advantage in power alone, those looking to use their GPUs for more than just gaming could get more out of Nvidia’s offering.
The RTX 3060 Ti has its own set of exclusive features, such as DLSS AI acceleration, which increases performance without compromising resolution quality, and Nvidia Reflex, which dramatically reduces latency. It also comes with benefits that are shared by all RTX 30 series GPUs, such as Nvidia’s Broacast and Studio platforms, offering tools that benefit not only gamers, but creatives and developers as well. Of course, it’s also worth noting that gaming performance may vary, as there will be certain titles that will be better optimized for AMD GPUs, while others will perform better with Nvidia’s. Budget-minded gamers will undoubtedly find the RTX 3060 Ti to be the best deal considering the performance it offers at a lower cost, but, for those who don’t mind paying more, the egregious discrepancy in specs means that the RX 6700 XT is worth the price of admission.
