The command post in charge of the Metekel area in Ethiopia’s Benishangul Gumz region has killed 23 insurgents, says the region’s Communication Office.

The command post in the Metekel area has killed 23 anti-peace elements, according to a report from the Benishangul Gumz communications office. Citing the head of the command post in the area, Colonel Ayalew Beyene, the report indicated that all 23 insurgents were killed in the Dangur area in a town known as No. 3.

The report indicated that members of the national defense force, federal police and security forces in the Benishangul Gumz region have taken action against the 23 insurgents. The Dangur area is one of the areas in the Benishangul Gumz region where recently dozens of innocent people, mainly of the Amhara ethnic group, were killed by the armed group, which is reportedly associated with the Tigray People’s Liberation Front. (TPLF).

Recently, officials in the Benishangul Gumz region have called on the insurgents to surrender. Today’s news came a few days after Benishangul Gumz region president Ashadli Hassen urged the insurgents to surrender.
