China: CCP Implements New Regulations to Control Religious Beliefs | India flourishes

Beijing: The Communist Party of China (CCP) is ready to introduce a set of new regulations to control the religious activities of foreign worshipers in China in accordance with the Chinese religion.

The draft regulation on the “Provisions on the Administration of Foreign Religious Activities in the People’s Republic of China”, published by the Ministry of Justice in mid-November, was open for public comment until December 17 and is expected to become in law earlier this year. Zee News reported.

The bill consists of 40 articles grouped into 5 chapters, the Indian news channel reported.

Chapter I (Article 1-5) focuses mainly on defining terms such as “foreigners” and “religious activities of foreigners in China”. Article 5 states that “foreigners in the territory who carry out religious activities must abide by the laws, regulations and norms of China, respect the principles of the independence of the Chinese religion and must not violate public order and good customs in China” .

The use of the phrase “China’s religious independence” in Chapter 1 of the new rules underscores the government’s effort to rid the country of foreign influence. It is primarily aimed at Christian groups, as Christianity is one of the fastest growing religions, and lately foreigners have had some freedom in China to live as Christians, Zee News reports.

Chapter III (Article 22-29) specifies that foreign missionaries will be allowed to conduct friendly religious exchanges and will be required to prove that they are “friends of China” in their home country, reports the Indian news channel.

The phrase “China-friendly” is an obvious pointer to Tibet. China has been trying to control Tibetan Buddhism since it occupied Tibet in 1950. In 1995, China announced its own Panchen Lama, after kidnapping the real 11th Panchen Lama just two days after his name was announced by the Dalai Lama, Zee News reported.

The Chinese government’s move is aimed at using Beijing-appointed puppet Panchen Lama to legitimize the appointment of its own Dalai Lama.

However, the China-appointed Panchen Lama is widely considered a false Panchen Lama. With the new regulations, China would further alter the actual doctrine of Buddhism according to Chinese characteristics, while pressuring Tibetan religious leaders to align themselves, reports Zee News.

According to media reports, the CCP has always placed itself above the nation and its citizens.

“Now, with the new regulations, China would enforce the CCP’s supremacy over religions. The current hierarchical system of the CCP is well established with Xi Jinping as the core of the party. Now, with Almighty God at the center of all religions, the next the attempt could be to superimpose Xi Jinping on the God, “the news channel reported.
