After all, Resident Evil VIIIage might not be exclusive to the next generation, and Capcom says it’s working on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions as well.
Resident Evil VIII is being Developed from the ground up for next-gen PS5 and Xbox Series X hardware and will flex the new capabilities of the new and improved RE engine. There’s only one potential problem with this plan: It restricts game sales to platforms that haven’t really matured, and it skips the 110 million PS4 install base and the Xbox One 50 million plus base.
Apparently, Capcom wants to remedy this and now says that RE8 could also fall into current generation systems.
“While Resident Evil Village is being developed specifically for next-gen PCs and consoles, we are looking to deliver the experience on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One as well.” Capcom said in its recent Transmission TGS 2020.
“We are investigating it, but we cannot make any promises. However, we will do our best to create a first-rate survival horror experience on current generation consoles.”
There is no guarantee that this will happen, but it seems likely given the poor supply of next-generation hardware and the massive installation foundations of current-generation systems.
Resident Evil VIIIage is due out sometime in 2021.
