Developers Treyarch will take on a major project in December, with the first season of Call of Duty Black Ops Warzone scheduled to begin.
The news was shared by Activision earlier this week and will be an important part of the company’s strategy going forward.
While Warzone is a Modern Warfare spinoff of Battle Royale, it is still a very popular mode.
Not only can you play it for free on PS4, Xbox One, and PC, but it continues to receive new content and support from Infinity Ward.
But all of this will change in the coming months as the game switches from Modern Warfare to Black Ops Cold War, which is scheduled to release next month.
Activision confirmed this when it first introduced its new Cold War project, and has now released more details on when we can expect the first crossover season to take place.
According to Activision’s latest announcement, Call of Duty Black Ops Warzone will begin in December.
Not only that, but we should start hearing more about the new content plans in the coming weeks, when Black Ops Cold War hits shelves.
We already know that new weapons and items will be playable in Verdansk, but fans are also looking forward to a new map being released as part of the deal.
Recent leaks suggest a winter map is in the works, but this remains unverified at this time, and Activision is keeping quiet in that area of the game.
Activision Chairman Rob Kostich had the following to say about the new Warzone crossover during a recent earnings call, commenting:
“All the amazing new Black Ops Cold War weapons and operators you unlock and your progression from level 1 to 255 will be usable in Black Ops and Warzone.
And this is what has already been confirmed by developers Treyarch for when Black Ops launches in November:
“Warzone will continue to evolve after the launch of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, weaving together some of the themes, weapons and operators from Black Ops Cold War in this successful free Battle Royale experience.
Specifically, both games will share post-launch seasonal content through the return of the Battle Pass system and the Store, as well as sharing a progression system.
At launch, Black Ops Cold War will include a new leveling journey that will then connect to Warzone, allowing players to unlock new functional content for use in both titles. Additionally, both games are set to share post-launch seasonal content through the return of the Battle Pass system and the Store.
“In addition to all the new content for Black Ops Cold War, Warzone players will continue to have access to previously obtained content – weapons, operators, blueprints, equipment, cosmetics, etc. – that they obtained during their Modern Warfare experiences.
“Please note that previously obtained Modern Warfare content is only available and usable in Modern Warfare and Warzone.”
