If you have entered the Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War alpha on PS4 this weekend, you’ve likely been killed by a sniper.
Sniper is always a difficult balance to strike in FPS titles. Developers must follow a fine line between making them feel powerful, but no more viable than any other type of weapon.
The alpha for the upcoming Call of Duty title has so far shown that the balance isn’t quite right in the Cold War right now, but Treyarch plans to change that.
Ok, let’s talk snipers in the Cold War.
Crossover play is coming, but we knew it wouldn’t be in Alpha. We upgrade snipers to assess their performance in this Alpha specifically. Sniper Rifles WILL HAVE balance changes for the next Beta based on our analytics data this weekend.

Currently, snipers are not only incredibly powerful, but they also have remarkably fast downward aiming speed. This means that the weapons are deadly and fast, a combination that many players find too powerful.
In the tweet above, the Treyarch developer Tony Flame He explains that the study intentionally improved snipers for the alpha, and that the revisions will come in time for the beta to make the weapons more balanced.
If you’re a fan of fast range, make the most of the alpha – things will feel a lot different in the beta.
PS4 players will have access to next month’s beta first. Anyone who pre-orders the game on PS4 can jump into the action on October 8, with an open beta starting on October 10.
The following week, players who pre-order the game on Xbox One and PC can join in the fun beginning October 15, with an open beta starting on those platforms on October 17.
Black Ops Cold War will launch on November 13 on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. The game will also arrive on PS5 and Xbox Series X / S, where it will be available as a $ 10 or $ 70 update for new players.
