ANS HANSE on YouTube

Instagram, TikTok, Twitter, YouTube and Facebook. Wherever you look, Dalgona coffee is taking over. This sparkling, photo-worthy drink is inspired by a South Korean sweet of the same name, a sweet candy that features a fluffy texture and has a similar list of ingredients.

With restaurants and bars closed due to the coronavirus outbreak (and Starbucks doing drive-through and delivery orders only), there is a keen interest in getting a simple coffee solution without having to venture outside. And while it’s certainly easy to make a cup of drip coffee at home, it’s harder to make a barista-style brew without having access to a state-of-the-art espresso machine.

How to make Dalgona coffee in your kitchen

To prepare Dalgona coffee, all you need are 2 tablespoons of instant coffee, 2 tablespoons of granulated sugar, 2 tablespoons of hot water and a little milk. Dairy or non-dairy products will work equally well here.

Add the instant coffee, sugar, and hot water to a bowl and beat vigorously until the mixture becomes super thick (should have a consistency similar to whipped cream with stiff peaks) and acquires a subtle golden brown color. Pour the milk into a glass equipped with ice cubes, then place the pillow mixture on top of the cold milk, or mix the two parts if you are looking for a café con leche situation.

Take a photo (or full video) and post it online so you too can join Dalgona’s growing coffee community. But one thing is for sure: you quarantine it’s going to be incredibly caffeinated.
