The janitor has been a free agent since leaving Sofapaka in January, where match-fixing problems pushed him out the door.

Chippa United of the Premier Soccer League have signed Ugandan goalkeeper Ismail Wahoo for a 19-month contract.

The Chilli Boys confirmed the arrival of the Cecafa Cup winning goalkeeper after training with his rivals and PSL champions Mamelodi Sundowns.

After leaving Sofapaka in January, the former Vipers SC custodian remained without a mace, as reports indicated that he was heading to the PSL, specifically Mamelodi Sundowns, where their international captain Denis Onyango is the current number one.

In fact, Wanemos had expressed his desire to join Onyango, whom he is fighting to evict nationally.

“Uganda’s national goalkeeper, Ismail Wanemos, has officially signed for Chippa United and is available with immediate effect,” Chippa United announced on Twitter.

“The 25-year-old arrives from Sofapaka FC (Kenya) after signing a 19-month contract with the club and is already training with the team in Port Elizabeth.”

Injuries affected Waienen’s time at Batoto ba Mungu, but when he left, he revealed that the main reason for ending his brief stint with the Kenyan team was due to match-fixing problems.

“I decided to leave Sofapaka due to a match arrangement that I did not comply with while at the club. Several agents that included club officials approached me to give away games, ”Wanemos said in an earlier interview.

“I once refused a $ 20,000 bribe. I have big dreams as a goalkeeper and a bribe can’t ruin my future dreams, so I had to move and find another challenge elsewhere.

Wanemos had been hired by the Kenyan Premier League champions in 2009 to replace Justin Ndikumana, who had left to join Bandari.

The two-time Uganda Premier League (UPL) winning goalkeeper left Vipers in 2018 after he failed to renew his contract and joined Bunna in Ethiopia.

At the Venoms, where he enjoyed a successful seven-year stint, Wanemos also won a national trophy and on the international front he won the 2015 Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup in Ethiopia.

Posnet Omwony, who is now at Roses United, a South African National First Division club, is another Ugandan goalkeeper who made a name for himself in PSL at Bloemfontein FC and Black Leopards.

To return to the national team, the 25-year-old star has to lift his socks to eliminate competition from KCCA FC’s Onyango and Charles Lukwago, who are the Cranes’ first and second choice goalkeepers, respectively.
