Brendan Rodgers hopes Jurgen Klopp will not experience the same Liverpool result

Former Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers fears Jurgen Klopp may go through an experience similar to the one he faced during his time at Anfield.

The former Reds boss nearly guided the club to the 2014 Premier League title, only to fall terribly short, finishing two points behind winner Manchester City in second place.

Six years later and Liverpool are fighting for the title once again, only this time they appear to be runaway winners with a 25-point lead.

However, the suspension caused by the coronavirus pandemic has led to the season stopping, delaying Liverpool’s long-awaited celebrations.

Rodgers says his old club deserves the title, and it would be a “shame” if they were denied the trophy after waiting 30 years since their last league win.

“They clearly have been consistently the best team,” Rodgers said on the Eamonn and the Gaffers podcast.

“The level they have been playing at, the quality, they have just been absolutely fantastic.

“So it would be an absolute shame if they don’t have a chance to lift the title.”

“They’ve been waiting so long, so long, they deserve it. But Jurgen will be like everyone else, hoping we can play again, but obviously in a safe environment.

“It just wasn’t for us and of course you have times when you think about that season.

“We were so close, and it would have been great for us to have done it. But it wasn’t, you just have to keep going.”
