The gentlemen racers just got a shiny new toy. Brabham Automotive has officially released a street legal version of its high octane BT62 race car.
First introduced in February, the road-ready supercar is equipped with the most powerful naturally aspirated V8 on the market and promises a thrilling driving experience to rival the monster on the original track. The car has been named BT62R, with the “R” indicating that the vehicle can be driven on public roads.
“The launch of the BT62R is a great achievement for the Brabham Automotive team,” said Dan Marks, CEO of Brabham Automotive, in a press release. “All the design and engineering required to turn the BT62 track into the road to BT62R has been done in-house by our engineering team, which is a great testament to their effort and expertise.”
Depending on the brand, the BT62R is almost as capable as its exclusive track counterpart, but has received a number of major modifications to make it a suburban sprinter. The car still has a menacing 5.4-liter V8 that delivers 700 horsepower and 492 pound-feet of spin, but it received a revised engine mapping for road use. There is a six-speed sequential gearbox with standard shift paddles to make it more suitable for the streets. The exhaust system has also been tuned to ensure that the brute is quiet enough for the crowd.
The BT62R has adjustable sport suspension so the ride height can be increased to cope with steep roads, along with a modified aerodynamic package and new Eagle F1 SuperSport tires for a smoother ride. The steering has also been modified to adjust the car’s turning radius and avoid embarrassing 15-point turns.
The final touches have to do with comfort. The car features air conditioning, a heated windshield, a more exclusive interior trim, a passenger seat, doors that can actually be locked, side mirrors, and a reversing camera that sends images to the configurable digital control panel.
The BT62R appears to be just the beginning for Brabham. The automaker is not resting on its laurels. In fact, it also has a fully homologated road car in the works that will be officially announced in the coming months.
Brabham says it has already received several orders for the BT62R, which is priced at just $ 1.5 million. The first models are already in production and will be delivered to customers in the northern and southern hemisphere in the coming weeks. Hopefully we will soon see one of these beauties on the road.
