Biden has revealed his picks for key administration positions in recent days, a list marked by decades of experience and Ivy League credentials. He elected former Federal Reserve chair Janet Yellen as his Treasury secretary, a position they are close to. Warren said she expected. Other administration picks include Ron Klain as chief of staff, Tony Blinken as secretary of state and Jake Sullivan as national security adviser.
However, Biden acknowledged that he was willing to appoint Republicans to his administration as a sign of unifying the country. His transition team had been examine republican candidates for cabinet positions in the run-up to Election Day.
During his interview Tuesday, Biden also rejected the recent reviews he was trying to recreate an Obama White House by naming experienced Washington figures. President Donald Trump has completely transformed the political landscape, Biden said, giving his future administration a new list of challenges.
“This is not a third term for Obama, because we face a totally different world than the one we faced in the Obama-Biden administration,” said the president-elect.
Biden also said that he and Trump had not yet met, though he suggested that Klain and White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows could have spoken. Although the Trump administration formally began the presidential transition this week, Trump has continued to refuse to grant the election, tweeting conspiracy theories of voter fraud.
