The video game Among Us will receive one of its biggest updates to date with the launch of a new map and some new features that will change the gaming experience.
What’s going on?
Among Us, a free-to-play multiplayer game that puts players in a whodunit setting, will add a new map called The Airship on March 21, according to the game’s developer Innersloth.
- The map will come with some free updates, including stairs added to the game and a new moderation system that allows players to moderate comments in the game’s chat feature.
- Innersloth said that players can now choose the room they want to start in. At this moment, the game gathers all the players in a singular room within each map. Choosing your own room will change the field of the game.
Retrospective scene
The new Among Us map was originally leaked in December 2020, Polygon reports. The new map comes as the popular mobile game became even more popular with the pandemic. As of November, the game reportedly had over 500 million users worldwide, which I wrote about for the Deseret News.
- “When a game becomes unexpectedly popular, it’s great, but it brings a lot of other problems that we were extremely new to,” the company said in a blog post. “That being said, we are very grateful for all the success we have had.”
The developers of Among Us said they had been slow to release updates because there are only four people working on the game. Dealing with the rise in popularity limited the number of updates developers could bring in, as I wrote for Deseret News.
