Lewandowksi is the favorite to win the award after a stellar year for Bayern Munich that included winning the Champions League, as well as the Bundesliga and the German Cup.

Ronaldo finished the 2019-20 season with 37 goals in all competitions as he helped Juventus win the Serie A title, and already has 12 in the new campaign.

Messi remains a player of exceptional gifts, but he has endured a difficult year. He finished the 2019-20 season with 31 goals and was La Liga’s top scorer, but it was a disappointing campaign in which Barcelona fell short in the league, the Champions League and the Copa del Rey. Messi asked to leave the club in the summer, but his request was rejected, and he remains at Camp Nou in what has already turned into a challenging season with new coach Ronald Koeman.

Manchester City’s Lucy Bronze is poised for the women’s award, having won the Champions League with former club Olympique Lyonnais. She faces former Lyon teammates Wendie Renard and Chelsea’s Pernille Harder.

Harder’s coach Emma Hayes has been shortlisted for the women’s coach award, while Leeds coach Marcelo Bielsa and Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp are nominated for the men’s coach, along with Bayern Munich’s Hansi Flick.

Klopp’s number one goalkeeper, Alisson Becker, is among the candidates for the men’s goalkeeper award against Bayern’s Manuel Never and Atlético de Madrid’s Jan Oblak.

Tottenham’s Son Heung-min is on the list for the Fifa Puskas award, which goes to the best goal of the year, after his riveting dribble through Burnley last season.
