The six-time Ballon d’Or winner returned to the starting lineup on Sunday after missing a midweek draw with Eibar through injury.
It was an almost perfect return for Messi, as Jordi Alba threw a ball towards the back post.
But he softened his lines and crashed a half volley into the billboards. Even Messi himself seemed embarrassed
Messi’s strike did not go unnoticed on social media and fans believe that shows why he has only seven goals in La Liga this campaign.

Messi had some terrible shot attempts today. For the first time in my life I felt what it is like to be a Ronaldo fan.

Thank God there was no ambulance in the stadium. Messi’s shot would have broken the glass

Frenkie de Jong’s goal in the first half made the difference, but Barcelona were incredibly wasteful heading into goal.
Coach Ronald Koeman was happy with the victory and especially highlighted the Blaugrana style of play.
“It was a very important result tonight,” he told Movistar on OneFootball. “We always want to play and create opportunities. We had a lot of possession and scoring opportunities.”
Messi had a free kick blocked by Álvaro Fernández and Ousmane Dembele had a blocked shot from the goal.
But the home side, dominated in the last 20 minutes, had the misfortune to escape without a point.
“Huesca launched at the end and we had to defend,” Koeman continued. “It is difficult for us to defend ourselves because we are used to having the ball. We had to defend the result, although they did not create many chances either.”
Barcelona is fifth in La Liga and ten points behind Atlético de Madrid in first place.
