Barcelona have been forced to reconsider their position on Ousmane Dembélé after his move to Manchester United collapsed.
The Frenchman has been used sparingly by the club during his time in La Liga.
Injury problems have taken their toll on the extreme, but coaches have also noticed attitude problems.
Dembélé seemed willing to leave the Camp Nou this summer after Ronald Koeman ruled it with excessive requirements.
He was hell-bent on signing Memphis Depay from Lyon, which would have opened a transfer to United.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was desperate to sign a winger in the summer and was looking for alternatives to Jadon Sancho.
But a move didn’t materialize as Lyon clung to Depay, but the Red Devils were not done yet.
They had another raid planned in January, but an injury to Ansu Fati caused Dembele to return from the desert.
The 18-year-old has been a sensation for Los Cules since joining the team, but has been out for four months.
It means that Barça will block any attempt to sign Dembélé, according to Sport.
Instead, the former Borussia Dortmund star will assume a more prominent role in the first team in the coming months.
Barcelona have had a rollercoaster season so far, losing matches against Real Madrid and Getafe in recent weeks.
But there have also been highlights, like the 5-2 win over Real Betis and the Champions League win over Juventus.
However, they are nine points behind La Liga leaders Real Sociedad, with pressure mounting Koeman, despite arriving in the summer.
Dembélé reminded the Barça fans of his skills after a brilliant goal in the victory over Betis.
But he has a year and a half left on his contract and the idea was that he be allowed to leave before leaving for nothing.
Now it is up to Dembélé to regain his form and potentially win a new deal.
The 23-year-old signed for Barcelona in 2017 for an initial € 105 million plus € 40 million in add-ons, but he hasn’t lived up to his price.
