Bank ABC, a leading international bank in the Mena region, won the Bahrain Bank of the Year award from The Financial Times ‘The Banker magazine’ in recognition of its strong growth strategy, resilient performance and pioneering advancements in digital transformation.
The Bahrain-based bank offers global coverage for companies and financial institutions, and innovative wholesale banking products including transaction banking, structured and project finance, syndication, treasury, and Islamic banking and financial market products.
Banker magazine hosted the 2020 awards ceremony on a virtual platform, yesterday (December 2), attended by CEOs and C-Suite executives from around the world.
The FT Publishing Awards aim to reward and promote industry-wide excellence in the global banking community, where banks in 150 countries are evaluated on a number of parameters, including financial performance, technology, and innovation. And this year, there was another criterion: the response to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The rigorous evaluation process by FT’s panel of editors typically takes more than five months and therefore these awards are among the most coveted and widely regarded as the ‘Oscars’ in the banking industry.
Bank ABC has the distinction of receiving this honor twice, having also won the award for 2017, its top official said.
“We are very honored to receive this recognition for the second time and in the midst of a unique storm caused by the pandemic. Bank ABC’s vision, constant engagement with all its stakeholders and pioneering digital transformation enabled it to weather an extremely hostile year , “commented the group’s president, Saddek Omar El Kaber.
“This has been recognized not only by our industry peers and rating agencies, but now by The Banker Awards,” he added.
Bank ABC also offers retail banking services through its network in Jordan, Egypt, Tunisia and Algeria and in Bahrain through mobile-only digital bank ila.TradeArabia news service
