Baldur’s Gate 3 character creation detailed ahead of early release

Last month, the launch of Baldur’s Gate 3 Early access was delayed for a week. Early Access will now launch on October 6, and as we approach that new date, developer Larian Studios has decided to satiate eager fans with an in-depth look at character creation. Today, Larian detailed what character creation will look like in the early access launch of Baldur’s Gate 3, giving day one players a chance to start assembling their characters before launch.

After all, Baldur’s Gate 3 is based on Dragons and Dungeons 5e, and anyone who has played the board game knows that there is a lot to character creation. You will have to choose your class, run, determine your starting abilities and choose the abilities of your character. In Baldur’s Gate 3, there will be six skills to assign points to: Strength, Dexterity, Constitution, Intelligence, Wisdom and Charisma, just like the skills that are in the tabletop version of D&D.

When you have assigned points to your abilities and have chosen your starting abilities, you will have to create your character, which means choosing the race and appearance of your character. In a Steam news post released today, Larian says there will be more than 150 faces to choose from at the beginning of Early Access at Baldur’s Gate 3, with the studio adding more to choose from as time goes on.

There will also be 16 races and subraces to choose from. Some races, like humans, have no sub-races, while others have multiple sub-races (Elves, for example, can be High Elves or Forest Elves). Many of the races will be familiar to those who have played D&D before, as dwarves, halflings, and half-elves, though Baldur’s Gate 3 will also feature some of D&Dless common breeds such as Tieflings and Drow. The race you choose will determine how the NPCs in Baldur’s Gate will treat you, just as it has in previous Larian games and before D&D video game.

Finally, we will have selectable classes to choose from, which will include Cleric, Fighter, Ranger, Rogue, Warlock, and Wizard in early access (although we hope more classes will be added later). Larian says that each of these classes will have at least two subclasses to choose from, so there seems to be a lot of flexibility in how you will build your character. You can read more about Baldur’s Gate 3Character creation on the Steam post linked above, but otherwise keep an eye out for early access launching on Steam on October 6.
