Avengers has a fair and innovative monetization scheme where battle passes pay for themselves.

Like any live game, the new Avengers game exists for one main purpose – to make money from online engagement driven. Avengers is designed to be endlessly playable and fun with materials, resources, coins, and progression systems that keep you playing. The more you play, the more likely you are to pay. Avengers has a forked monetization system that innovates on the traditional battle pass model.
So how are you going to pay? Avengers has two main monetization paths focused on a premium currency called Credits. These credits can be purchased for real money in proportions such as $ 5 for 500 credits.
The two paths are:
- Buy cosmetics by parts in a premium store for credits for different costs
- Buy 1000 credit cards ($ 10), which are basically battle passes
It is worth mentioning that there are two currencies in the game: Units, which are obtained from in-game activities and can be used to buy equipment, resources and other content from the Sellers, and Credits, which are the premium currency described here.
Cosmetics are simple. You can buy them with credits to customize your hero with a new look. The Avengers will have tons of cosmetics spanning the 80-year history of Marvel comics.
However, the battle pass system is different. Is that how it works.

Every new Avengers hero will be free. Players won’t have to spend extra money to play with additional heroes added after launch (including Spider-Man for PlayStation players).
But Square Enix has found an interesting way to indirectly monetize these characters and avoid potential profit losses.
The characters are free, but the progression systems around those characters it won’t be free. Basically each hero will have their own $ 10 Battle Pass. These are called Hero Cards, they will cost 1,000 credits ($ 10) and are organized as a Battle Pass with many in-game challenges that you must complete to earn different rewards in the game.
Abilities and armor will not lock behind hero cards. But hero cards can reward you with the rare materials needed to make and update these armor and armor.

Therefore, Hero Cards are not directly pay-to-win. They are “pay for a chance to win if you spend enough time unlocking them.” It’s kind of a shortcut that you have yet to unlock by playing.
The best part about Hero Cards is that they can pay for themselves. When you complete all the objectives on a hero card, your 1,000 credits will be refunded. So essentially the content will pay for itself only if you spend enough time.
We want to reward players for their time, so once you activate the premium rewards of a hero challenge card for 1,000 credits, you can earn everything on that card, including more credits! If you complete all the challenges on your Hero Challenge Card, not only will you get back your activation cost of 1,000 credits, but all the content you earn is worth more than 12,500 credits. Remember, these rewards provide fun in-game enhancements and cosmetic effects, but they don’t provide an in-game advantage.
Hero Challenge Cards do not rotate and will not be removed, so once you have activated the premium rewards, there is no time limit or risk to spread your focus among the heroes. That said, if you’re in a hurry, you can buy “jumps” to get through levels faster.
This monetization system directly rewards players who spend the most time in the game, which is a powerful retention and engagement mechanism. It is also a great way to make money even when it offers all the new characters for free.
Crystal Dynamics confirms that the six starting characters (Hulk, Black Widow, Thor, Captain America, Iron Man, and Ms. Marvel) will have their Hero Cards unlocked for free.
From what we’ve seen so far, the microtransaction system seems fair enough and may not deter players from spending more time and money on Crystal Dynamics’ new Avengers game.
