The first fully digital CES event, CES® 2021, one of the largest digital technology events in history. Almost 2,000 companies unveiled next-generation innovation for a better future.

Ownership and production of the Consumer Technology Association (CTA) ®, CES 2021 featured product launches from startups to tech giants, keynotes from global industry leaders, Hollywood live entertainment, and more than 100 hours of conference programming.

“The all-digital CES 2021 engaged the global tech community to experience innovation, make connections, and conduct business,” says Gary Shapiro, CTA president and CEO. “CES showed how the pandemic accelerated the arc of innovation and illustrated the resilience and innovative spirit of our industry. From the latest innovations for home and entertainment, and advancements in 5G, vehicle technology, artificial intelligence and digital health, the technologies at CES 2021 will pave the way for a brighter tomorrow. “

CES 2021 started on January 11th with Media Day, with 19 press conferences with companies that include Bosch, Canyon, Caterpillar, Hisense, Intel, LG Electronics, Mercedes Benz, Panasonic, Samsung Electronics and Sony breaking news and product launches. Trends from Media Day focused on “home” with innovation that personalizes work, health and home entertainment, as well as advancements in transportation and mobility.

Nearly 2,000 companies launched fully digital products during CES 2021, including nearly 700 startups from 37 countries. Exhibiting companies included tech giants, such as Intel, LG Electronics, Panasonic, Samsung Electronics, and Sony, as well as non-traditional tech companies, from AARP to Bridgestone, Caterpillar, Indy Autonomous Challenge, John deere, L’Oréal, Moen and Procter & Gamble. New exhibiting companies at CES 2021 included ASUS, BioIntelliSense, Bose, They are motors and Volvo penta.

Industry leaders stepped onto the all-digital CES main stage to make important announcements, including:

  • Verizon: Hans Vestberg, President and CEO of Verizon, demonstrated the immersive 5G experience in sports, education, connected communities and live music, and announced partnerships with the NFL. UPS, Live Nation Clubs and Theaters, The Met and the Smithsonian.
  • General motors: Mary Barra, President and CEO of General Motors (GM), launched new GM product lines, including the Cadillac eVTOL, an air taxi concept; and a new business unit dedicated to electrifying the freight delivery market.
  • AMD: AMD President and CEO Dr. Lisa Su revealed the new Ryzen 5000 series mobile processors in two categories: the H series for gaming and content creation notebooks and the U series for ultraportable notebooks.
  • Best Buy: Corie Barry, CEO of Best Buy, shared how the company changed during the pandemic and put the customer in control of purchases, whether from home, on the sidewalk or in person.
  • Future reimagined: Michael Miebach, CEO of MasterCardand Julie Sweet, CEO of Accenture, predicted the technology trends they hope to see over the next decade.
  • Walmart: Doug McMillon, CEO of Walmart, discussed the ways in which 5G, AI and robotics will change the business; how Walmart turned to keep employees healthy and customers satisfied; and the company’s commitment to diversity and inclusion.
  • Microsoft: Brad Smith, president of Microsoft, gave his vision on how to ensure cybersecurity and protection of customer privacy, and spoke about the responsibility of the technology industry to exercise our conscience.
  • Entertainment transformed: Michael Kassan, President and CEO of MediaLinkand Ann Sarnoff, President and CEO of WarnerMedia Studies and Network group, outlined the ever-evolving entertainment industry and what the industry will look like in a post-pandemic world. Maverick Carter, CEO of The Springhill Co.; Adrienne Lofton, Vice President of Marketing North America, NIKE; and Deborah Wahl, General Motors Global CMO, discussed how marketers and brands are adapting and creating in today’s landscape.

The all-digital CES 2021 featured groundbreaking innovation that will improve our world, from health to safety, sustainability and accessibility.

  • Technological innovation accelerated by COVID-19
    • Tech companies innovated during the pandemic, with companies at CES 2021 with smart masks, disinfectant robots, body sensors that detect COVID-19 symptoms, and smart air filtration systems.
  • Consumer trust and privacy
    • The heads of privacy at Amazon, Google and Twitter discussed new privacy regulations and the need to increase consumer confidence, stating that tech companies should give users more control over their data.
  • Global technology challenge
    • The Global Tech Challenge, launched at CES 2020, in partnership with the world Bank and CTA, awards technology solutions in three areas: digital health in East Africa, resilience in India and gender equality around the world. The selected winners were announced this week from more than 1,000 submissions, with three winners selected for gender equality, 10 for resilience and 17 for digital health.
  • Space technology
    • POT was accompanied by leaders of Lockheed martin and Space tango discuss the role of technology in accelerating space research and advancements that will benefit all of humanity.

Conference program and special events

The CES conference program showed more than 100 hours of programming. Sessions covered pressing topics such as privacy, the future of artificial intelligence and healthcare, autonomous transportation, trends in retail and technology policy.

The future of entertainment was reinvented at CES 2021, with a special event featuring Ryan Seacrest and music superstars Billie Eilish and Dua Lipa, as they discussed how technology has enabled the creation of a new immersive experience for fans.

Diversity commitment

CTA continued its commitment to driving diversity in technology with its latest investment, announcing an investment in the venture capital fund Plum alley. This is part of its $ 10 million (€ 8.24 million) commitment to venture companies and funds that invest in women, people of color and other underrepresented entrepreneurs.

Plum Alley invests in founding teams of women, women, and men, and has an impressive representation of founding women from many origins and ethnic groups in the STEM fields, including Dr. Jennifer Doudna, who recently won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry. CTA announced its funding commitment of $ 10 million (€ 8.24 million) on stage at CES 2019.

Government leaders at CES 2021

Government leaders and legislators from the US and around the world participated in the all-digital CES 2021, sharing their insights on the future of innovation. Policymakers included the designated director of the US National Economic Council for the incoming Biden administration, Brian Dreese.; The French Minister of State for the Digital Transition and Electronic Communications, Cedric O; the Secretary of State for Economic Affairs and Climate Policy of the Netherlands, Mona Keijzer; and UK Transport Minister Rachel McLean.

CES 2021 global reach

CES 2021 was truly a global event, with attendees from more than 150 countries and more than 1,300 exhibitors from outside the United States, including more than 530 international startups. Country group organizers brought in large delegations of exhibitors, including Canada, France, Israel, Italy, Japan and South Korea. CES 2021 featured startups from Nigeria and Russia for the first time.
