Assassin’s Creed Valhalla seems to be off to a good start • Eurogamer.net

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is off to a good start, it seems, judging by the enthusiastic Ubisoft press release that arrived in my email inbox.

We’re still a bit early for sales figures – Valhalla only appeared on PlayStation 5 today in countries where PS5 is actually available, but Ubisoft already has an impressive statistic to share.

Twice as many people played Valhalla at launch on Monday, November 10, compared to Odyssey, set in Ancient Greece, on its debut in October 2018.

That’s a huge leap, and it speaks to the long-term success of Odyssey, which continued to rack up sales and positive word of mouth over time. (Also, parts of the world are locked down, and there are generally more consoles than a couple of years ago.)

“We are honored by the reception from players and extremely proud of what our teams have accomplished with Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, which builds on the astonishing success of its predecessors,” said Ubisoft Chief Yves Guillemot.

“In the context of COVID-19, shipping Assassin’s Creed Valhalla on no fewer than seven platforms is an incredible achievement for all teams involved around the world. We are excited to welcome Xbox Series X | S and PlayStation 5 players with a game that unleashes the power of new hardware. This paves the way for an exciting Christmas season, with Assassin’s Creed Valhalla set to be one of the biggest hits of this season. “

Another reason Valhalla is probably selling? It’s good! In Eurogamer’s review of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, I wrote that it was “another huge Assassin’s Creed saga, luxuriously designed, with an eye toward the direction of the story over narrative choice.”
