There are many dogs to pet Assassin’s Creed Valhalla … but have you seen the cats? You can pet the cats in Valhalla, too, but Ubisoft also added the ability to pick up cats and cuddle them. But what I wonder is: What race are these? I know Eivor is a fearsome drengr and all, but how does he know about these things? They are huge!
I mean, look at this guy:
Cats appear to be relatively normal in size when on the ground. But in the arms of Eivor, we can really appreciate the enormous scale of these cats.
Eivor is quite a large human being, compared to the Anglo-Saxons in England. This cat is clearly larger than Eivor’s head; in fact, the cat’s head is about two-thirds the size of Eivor’s head! It has to weigh about 20 pounds. Frankly, if these cats didn’t have long tails, you might believe they are actually bobcats. Of course, there are other species of big cats. Polygon managing editor (and cat expert) Chelsea Stark suggested that these may be Norwegian Forest Cats. Apparently the earliest ancestors of the Norwegian forest cat often lived on Viking ships to keep mice at bay. I am not an expert, but according to Wikipedia, Vikings did bring the ancestors of Norwegian forest cats to England.
Either way, Norwegian forest cats can weigh up to 20 pounds … so that would be correct in my opinion. But who am I to say? I contacted Ubisoft to find out more about the chonker cats in England, but have not received a response yet.
Regardless of race, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla allows you to bring a cat as a member of your crew, in mouse service, of course. Once you find the little one, he will take a seat on the Eivor ship. She is very pretty.
This is part of a specific side quest, one that will not appear on your map. You will find the white cat in Norwich, which is part of the East Anglia region. The cat is on one of the city’s roads, so you’ll have to wander a bit to find her. Once you see it, it will always be the white cat, interact with it and a child will come up asking for help to catch the cat. You will need to follow the child and catch the cat. Eventually, you will have the option to add her to your crew.
From there, just visit your longship, that’s your home now.
There are many more cats in Valhallain the world, but one particular favorite feline activity that I came across is this: I came across a farmer complaining of a problem with mice in his fields. Coincidentally, he has a neighbor who has a lot of cats in her house. I convinced the lady to let her cats become mouse warriors and we released them into the mouse field. It is a truly beautiful place to watch these big cats leave this lady’s house, as Eivor wishes them well in their eternal battle.
(To find this quest, take a look at the fields behind Grantebridge. You will hear a lady yelling “Shoo!” And a farmer complaining about mice.)
