ADDIS ABABA, Nov. 3 (Xinhua) – An armed attack in Ethiopia’s Oromia regional state left four construction workers dead, an Ethiopian official said Tuesday.

Tadele Udo, chief administrator for the Guji area in the Oromia regional state, said an armed attack on Sunday left four construction workers dead.

Udo further said that the attack that occurred in the town of Gumi-Eldalo in the Guji area also injured three other construction workers. All the victims suffered gunshot wounds.

The victims were building a bridge when they were ambushed by fighters believed to be affiliated with the rebel group Oromo Liberation Army (OLA), the state-run Ethiopia Broadcasting Corporation reported.

OLA is a separatist faction of a former Oromo Liberation Front (OLF) rebel group.

The OLF is an opposition political party that claims to fight for the rights of ethnic Oromos, who represent about 35 percent of Ethiopia’s population of more than 110 million.

The OLF was designated as a terrorist group by the Ethiopian Parliament in 2011. It was removed from the terrorist list in July 2018 to help facilitate negotiations and foster reconciliation. Final product
