One of the biggest enhancements to the iPhone 12 line is MagSafe, which allows you to securely attach cases, accessories, and wireless chargers to the back of the phone. Apple even revealed that it has a charger on the way that will allow you to charge an iPhone 12 and an Apple Watch at the same time, and now that it has reportedly passed compliance in Korea, the MagSafe Duo charger could launch soon.
If true, it is likely to be released in Korea earlier than other regions, given that we have only heard about compliance with the approval of the Duo charger by that country’s regulatory agency NRRA, a certification first noticed by MacRumors.
But after compliance, Apple usually doesn’t wait long to set a product launch date, as PhoneArena Point out.
For those who can’t wait that long, Apple is selling its own standalone MagSafe charger, and third-party chargers that use the magnetic system are sure to follow. But a cottage industry of MagSafe connection accessories has already sprung up, like these ‘mounts’ that turn your iPhone 12 into a mounted camera, so don’t think it’s just for charging.
MagSafe: a new trick for the phone or a breakthrough?
MagSafe was a bit of a surprise when Apple showed it off during the iPhone 12 reveal event. While the family of phones has had wireless charging since the iPhone 8, we were expecting Apple’s latest phones to include a more common feature, reverse wireless charging. , instead of a magnetic system that helps to attach accessories.
At launch, Apple didn’t reveal that the iPhone 12 had such reverse wireless charging, but it may be idle on new phones and tied to MagSafe. Jeremy Horwitz, VentureBeat reporter tweeted that an FCC filing showed that the new iPhones do indeed have reverse wireless charging, but for some reason, it was not an officially confirmed feature on the new phones. Heck, we would have expected Apple to announce its benefits on stage when they introduced the new phones.
One theory claims Apple is craftily awaiting the next AirPods update to show the function. It would make sense to wait for a new official product that works with MagSafe, given how annoying it is to find the right place (above the wireless charging coils) to charge separate devices on Android phones with reverse wireless charging, Apple would do so in applause if its case AirPods simply clip onto the back of an iPhone 12, no fuss or tampering required.
If so, Apple could carry out this disclosure on its One More Thing event on November 10, a last-minute sneak peek that could be (should it be?) the tech giant’s last product announcement of the year. We’ll have to wait and see if Apple has saved some of the best for last.
