5 things you can do with your new iPhone 12 right now
Snagged one of Apple’s 5G-ready iPhone 12s? Well, here are some ideas on where to start, as you put it to the test.
The world’s largest iPhone goes on sale Friday to pre-order customers, and if you’re thinking, wait a minute, if the new iPhones didn’t go on sale in October, you didn’t read the fine print.
Two of the four new iPhones, the iPhone 12 and the iPhone 12 Pro, were released last month. But Apple may have saved the best for last, in terms of the phone photographers are drooling over. That model is the iPhone 12 Pro Max.
Pre-orders for that phone, and the fourth, the mini, open at 8 a.m. ET on Friday, but will be available in stores on Friday, November 13.
Meanwhile, many expensive tech items are also preparing for release.
Apple’s HomePod Mini, which appears to compete with Amazon’s Echo speakers and Google’s Nest Audio with Apple’s first speaker priced at $ 99, will also go on pre-sale Friday for its launch on the 13th.

And the battle of the newest video game units is also scheduled for next week, but good luck finding them. Sony’s PlayStation 5 (starting at $ 399) is scheduled for Tuesday, November 10, while Microsoft’s Xbox Series X ($ 499) is available for Thursday, November 12. Both are out of stock, but stores that desperately need customers might surprise. fans with devices in stock next week.
Of the new phones:
The iPhone 12 Mini is a pint-sized version, with a 5.4-inch screen for those who are concerned that iPhones have gotten too big. (It also has the lowest price of the new line 12, starting at $ 699.)
On the other side of the spectrum, the iPhone 12 Pro Max has a 6.7-inch screen, setting a new record for iPhone sizes. The iPhone 12 and 12 Pro models have 6.1-inch screens.
But beyond the weight of the iPhone 12 Pro Max are the new camera features that have the pros drooling.
“It’s great,” said DPReview of the iPhone 12, “but the Max should be even better”:
Specifically, Apple promises a 47% larger image sensor and large pixels, which means higher resolution photos, an advanced image stabilizer to help take stable photos, and a more advanced telephoto lens.
The focal length is 65mm, versus the 52mm offering of the other iPhones with an advanced “telephoto” offering. Many professionals use a 24mm to 70mm zoom lens on their DSLRs and mirrorless cameras to cover events, and with all three lenses on the iPhone, the ultra wide angle kicks in at around 20mm, which means a Small iPhone equates to what many photographers spend $ 1,000 to $ 2,500 for their accessory lens.
Meanwhile, only two major new fall tech products announced remain. Google’s Pixel 4a (5G), a $ 499 version of a phone initially released in the summer that connects to new 5G wireless networks, is scheduled for November 19.
And Amazon’s third-generation Echo Show 10, which features a rotating chassis that moves when video chat users are spread out across the room, is still listed as “coming soon” on Amazon’s website. The unit will sell for $ 249.
Finally, Apple is scheduled to introduce new MacBook laptops on Tuesday that will be powered by the same Apple-made processor chips that it uses to power iPhones and iPads. But the release date is not yet known.
