John Ternus, vice president of hardware engineering and Bob Borchers, vice president of product marketing, participated in the “Same Brain” podcast hosted by iJustine and her sister Jenna Ezarik. The 37.5-minute podcast covers the topic of all things iPad.
The Apple Touch ID button found on the new iPad Air was one of the highlights of the show. Ternus described the evolution of technology, and more importantly, the g on the button’s aspect ratio is so tight. During the setup process and over time, the button will be able to capture any part of your fingerprint to recognize the owner’s identification. The button had to be designed correctly because the cellular antenna runs down the same path on the top of the iPad where the new Touch ID button resides. Therefore, a lot of work had to be done so that there were no interference problems.
The topic of A12Z versus A14 chip was discussed and it is clear that performance cannot be compared just by numbers floating around the net. The A12Z has built-in custom graphics powerhouse that is not part of the A14 for iPad. Some will find that segment interesting.
I must admit, I was looking at the on-ear headphones that both Apple executives were wearing, hoping they’d give us a sneak peek at their new headphones that will hopefully launch later this month. Looks like they were both using Beats EP with RemoteTalk cable.
Of course, their earbuds looked nothing like the rumored earbuds pictured below. Although I must admit that I still hope the rumored design is wrong. My hope is that Apple offers a over ear style rather than the conceptual drawing illustrating a Over ear style.
