Apple’s first floating store is expected to open on Thursday, September 10 in Singapore, and we now have a better look at the futuristic design now that the outer wrap has been removed.

The dome-shaped structure found at Marina Bay Sands is made of 114 pieces of glass held together by 10 narrow vertical mullions. It features a 360-degree view of the sovereign city-state of Singapore and lets tons of natural light into the store.

This will be the first of Apple’s locations to include an underwater boardroom, located on the lower level of the store, where both developers and entrepreneurs can hold meetings with members of the Apple team. The construction of Apple Marina Bay Sands was inspired by the Pantheon in Rome, an ancient temple that currently serves as a Catholic church.

“We couldn’t be more excited to open the stunning Apple Marina Bay Sands in Singapore, building on our commitment to this special place that began more than 40 years ago,” Apple Retail Director Deirdre O’Brien said in a statement Monday. press. . “Our passionate and talented team is ready to welcome this community to our new store and provide the care and support that our customers around the world love.”

This new store will be Apple’s third retail facility located in Singapore, a global business and travel hub. As such, this location will have a diverse set of employees, with the nearly 150-person staff speaking 23 languages.

As a result of concerns about the coronavirus, Apple Marina Bay Sands is initially limiting the number of customers. Those who want to visit the store must register online to reserve a spot.

Before this week, the location was still covered, hiding the full effect of the glass panels. At the time, Apple had only teased that it would open “soon.”
