This story is part of Apple event, our full coverage of the latest news from Apple headquarters.
Apple one, the gadget giant’s new service pack, will launch this fall, ranging from $ 14.95 to $ 29.95 a month for different subscription combinations, including Apple Music, Apple TV Plus, Apple Arcade, Apple News Plus, the iCloud storage service, and the recently revealed Apple Fitness Plus. The news, expected since Apple made services an important part of its strategy more than three years ago, came at Apple’s online event Tuesday, they also focused on their iPads and Apple watches.
Apple One will be available with a 30-day free trial.
As Apple By increasing the creation and sale of more services, it has been widely expected to bundle these subscriptions into a single package to rule them all, so to speak. On Tuesday, Apple finally made the leap with Apple One.
Apple One has tiered pricing:
- The cheapest tier, called the Individual plan, will cost $ 14.95 per month and groups four services: Apple Music, Apple TV Plus, Apple Arcade, and 50 gigabytes of iCloud storage.
- The next level is a family plan at $ 19.95. That extra $ 5 unlocks the same four services but for up to six people total, and the Family plan expands iCloud storage to 200 gigabytes.
- The last tier is the $ 29.95 premier plan, which also offers those four services for six family members and adds Apple News Plus and Apple Fitness Plus (where available), and increases iCloud storage to 2 terabytes. .
Apple One is a tactic to attract more people to Apple’s interconnected network of devices and services, designed to work seamlessly. It’s an important step as Apple nears its goal of eclipsing $ 50 billion in service revenue by the end of the year.
But Apple One also crystallizes Apple’s ambition to become a services powerhouse, something that has already raised the hairs of rivals and caught the attention of more than one competition regulator around the world.
The main competitors like the music service Spotify and Fortnite maker Epic games They have criticized Apple’s practices in its powerful App Store, which offers its apps alongside Apple’s in direct competition against them and others. Claiming that Apple abuses the App Store to give its own services a competitive advantage, these complaints have sparked antitrust investigations in Europe and the United States, with CEO Tim Cook testifies about it before Congress earlier this year.
Apple’s service constellations include Apple Music, its $ 9.99-a-month music streaming rival from Spotify; the $ 4.99-a-month Apple TV Plus with big-budget original programming like The Morning Show and Defending Jacob; and Apple arcade, their $ 4.99 a month mobile gaming subscription service. Apple News Plus is your subscription of $ 9.99 per month to access more than 300 magazines and newspapers. AND iCloud is its remote storage service, which millions of people use for free and costs between 99 cents and $ 9.99 a month to expand capacity.
Earlier Tuesday, Apple revealed its latest service, Apple Fitness Plus, which is a $ 9.99 / month subscription that offers guided workouts tightly integrated with Apple Watch and other Apple devices.
Online media service packages are far from new. Amazon’s $ 12.99-a-month Prime membership service unlocks a number of services, including your Prime Video rival of Netflix and Apple TV Plus and its Prime Music catalog of songs in real time. Disney offers a package of their Disney Plus, ESPN Plus and Hulu video streaming services for a discount of $ 12.99 per month.
And independent companies work together to bundle deals: Spotify deals Hulu or Showtime video streaming services as discounted add-ons to your own paid premium music subscription. (Editor’s note: Showtime is owned by ViacomCBS, the parent company of CNET.)
But Apple is unique in the variety of services it can bundle and in dominating its iPhone, the world’s most popular smartphone and the frequent starting point for hundreds of millions of people who access many of these services.
Apple usually holds a fall event each year to advertise new iPhones before the holiday shopping season. This year, Apple seems to be doing things differently. Before that, Tuesday’s event was expected to include news about iPads, Apple Watches, their operating system software, and other surprises. A separate announcement for the next iPhone is expected to come later.
Apple warned investors in a conference call in July that this year’s batch of new iPhones would arrive “a few weeks later” than in previous years. That puts the launch of this year’s iPhone in October or possibly November.
