Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ: MSFT) has confirmed that it is adding From Apple Inc (NASDAQ: AAPL) streaming service, Apple TV, to the new Xbox launches on November 10.
What happened: “We are excited to share that the Apple TV app is coming to Xbox One and Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S in [Nov. 10,]”Microsoft said in a blog post.
The news comes a week later Sony Corp (NYSE: SNE) announced the addition of Apple TV to its new PS5 console that will launch on November 12.
While Apple TV will arrive on game consoles on the launch date, it will also be available on older consoles like PS4 and Xbox One.
Microsoft allows users to subscribe to the Apple TV + subscription from Xbox at $ 4.99 per month (with a seven-day free trial) directly from the app.
The company co-founded by Bill Gates said other popular streaming services like The Walt Disney Company (NYSE: DIS) Disney + and Hulu, From AT&T Inc. (NYSE: T) HBO Max, From Alphabet Inc. (NASDAQ: GOOGL (NASDAQ: GOOG) YouTube and YouTube TV, Amazon.com Inc.’s (NASDAQ: AMZN) Prime Video and Twitch, From Comcast Corp. (NASDAQ: CMCSA) Peacock would also be available on consoles.
Other streaming platforms available on Xbox devices include those of Netflix Inc.’s (NASDAQ: NFLX), Spotify Technology SA (NYSE: SPOT), along with Vudu, FandangoNow, Sky Go, NOW TV, and Sky Ticket.
Because it is important: Incorporating Apple TV into game consoles puts the streaming app on all major platforms.
According to Engadget, Apple has been aggressive in pushing its Apple TV service. The company offers a free one-year subscription to buyers of new Apple products, such as iPhones, iPads, or Macs.
Apple TV + ‘s low subscription price of $ 4.99 makes it hard to ignore and puts them in competition with Netflix, Hulu, and Disney +.
Since the platforms allow direct subscriptions to Apple TV + through the app, they could increase Apple’s subscription revenue for non-users of Apple products.
Price action: Shares of AAPL closed 0.08% lower at $ 108.77 on Monday, while shares of MSFT were down 0.06% at $ 202.33.
