Apple Inc. has developed skins that the company is beginning to distribute to corporate and retail employees to limit the spread of Covid-19.
Apple Face Mask is the first in-house created by the Cupertino, California-based tech giant for its staff. The other, called ClearMask, was obtained elsewhere. Apple previously made a different face shield for medical workers and distributed millions of other masks in the healthcare sector.
Apple told staff that the facemask was developed by engineering and industrial design teams, the same groups that work on devices like the iPhone and iPad. It is composed of three layers to filter incoming and outgoing particles. It can be washed and reused up to five times, the company told employees.
In typical Apple style, the mask looks unique with large covers on the top and bottom for the wearer’s nose and chin. It also has adjustable strings to fit a person’s ears.
The company, which confirmed the news, said it conducted careful research and testing to find the right materials to filter the air properly without disrupting the supply of personal protective medical equipment. Apple will begin shipping the Apple face mask to staff for the next two weeks.
The other model, ClearMask, is the first FDA-approved surgical mask that is completely transparent, Apple told employees. Shows the full face so that deaf or hard of hearing people can better understand what the user is saying.
Apple worked with Washington-based Gallaudet University, which specializes in educating deaf and hard-of-hearing students, to choose which clear mask to wear. The company also tested it with employees at three Apple stores. Apple is also exploring its own transparent skin options.
Before designing its own skins, Apple provided employees with standard cloth skins. It also offers basic surgical masks to customers visiting its retail stores.
A sigh of relief: Apple iOS 13.3 released, supposedly fixes the most ‘annoying’ bugs
A lifesaving update indeed!
When Apple announced iOS 13 at the last WWDC (Worldwide Developers Conference), probably no Apple user had expected so many bugs and issues to be introduced to their phones. Apple delivered most of the features it had promised with iOS 13.2, which was released on October 30.
However, to fix the issues that users are facing, Apple has released iOS 13.3 for those who had signed up for beta testing. Reportedly, iOS 13.3 has fixed quite a few bugs, including what has been rated the most “annoying” issue to date.
No more data loss
A large number of users had raised issues with iOS 13 because apps were seemingly updating themselves, causing users to lose data. IPhones would automatically update previously accessed apps, a problem users didn’t face with older versions of iOS.
“I was watching a video on YouTube [sic] on my iPhone 11 Pro I paused the video to reply to a text message. I was in iMessage for less than a minute. When I went back to YouTube, I reloaded the application and lost the video I was watching, ”said one of the forum members named Rogifan.
After the release of iOS 13.3, one of the beta testers took to Twitter to share that Apple had reportedly fixed the issue. He said he had 32 apps open on his iPhone 11 Pro Max and none of them updated.
A child lock that really works!
iOS 13.3 comes with a new feature called ‘Communication Limits’. The iPhone will now have an application called Screen Time that allows users to limit text messages, calls and FaceTime for their children.
In addition, parents can also limit the time of use of different applications on the phone, such as FaceTime, the Phone application and Messages.
Previously, Screen Time could not block specific contacts, but now it has been fixed. And what is more? Parents can also set limits on the length of calls based on who their children are talking to.
Use Memojis / Animojis when needed
iOS 13.3 also comes with another minor update. It allows users to control when they want to view Memojis and Animojis.
In Settings> General> Keyboard, you can now turn off Animoji and Memoji Stickers from showing on the emoji keyboard.
For the uninitiated, Animojis are 3D animated emojis that transform familiar emojis into animated messages. Memojis, on the other hand, are custom Animojis, similar to Snapchat’s Bitomji, that look exactly like the user.
Twitter fixes autoscroll bug
It seems like a good time to have an iPhone because almost all the problems that users have faced are already being solved. Twitter has also released an iOS bug fix that stops the automatic scrolling of the timeline.
If the Twitter app has been acting on your iPhone lately, you are not alone. The frustrating auto-scrolling issue in iOS has been fixed by the good folks at Twitter with the latest version 8.1.5 of Twitter on the Apple App Store.
