Apple is in talks to acquire the rights to two animated films from Skydance Animation, which is directed by John Lasseter, reports Variety.
Lasseter is the former creative director of Walt Disney Animation Studios and Pixar, but has been with Skydance Animation since 2019. Before joining Skydance Animation, Lasseter directed popular Disney films including Toy Story, Cars and A Bug’s Life, as well as was executive producer of many others.
Apple is interested in the rights to its two most recent films, “Luck” and “Spellbound.” “Luck” has been called “Vintage Lasseter” with dazzling production value and commercial appeal. Follow the most unfortunate girl in the world.
When encountering the never-before-seen world of good and bad luck, he must team up with magical creatures to discover a force more powerful than luck itself.
“Spellbound” is a musical fantasy that takes place in a world of magic where a young woman seeks to break the spell that has divided her kingdom in two.
If Apple acquires the rights to the two films, they could see a theatrical release before they hit Apple TV +, but the deal has yet to close. “Luck” will be released on February 18, 2022, while “Spellbound” will be released on November 11, 2022.
