If you just got a new iPhone 12, Apple Watch, or iPad, hold on tight – Apple has a few iCloud problems. It’s likely the result of a high volume of people trying to set up or update iCloud accounts after the Christmas holiday gift delivery.
The problem started early on Christmas Day, according to the iCloud account and the login entry on Apple’s system status page, and is “ongoing.” More than a day later, Apple’s system status page indicates that the problem with the storage service remains “in progress”.
The company also noticed problems with signing in with Apple ID. In a reply from Twitter later on Christmas Day to a query from an Apple user looking to set up an iPad and a HomePod Mini, Apple Support acknowledged issues, saying the company was “experiencing high capacity right now, which is affecting its ability to configure iCloud.” The Apple Support tweet read: “Please try again in a couple of hours.”
The holidays are often a busy time for device activations as people unwrap gifts of phones, tablets, smartwatches, smart speakers, and other electronic devices and look to set them up right away.
Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
