Apple’s next event announcing devices has been officially confirmed by September 15, and we expect several new devices to be revealed. Here is everything we know and everything we suspect about the event.
Like WWDC 2020, the September Apple Event is online only and will start at 10 amPT / 1 pm EST / 6 pm BST (4 am AEDT on September 16 in Australia). Although Apple has not yet confirmed where to watch it, the precedent suggests that it will be streamed live on Apple’s website and YouTube.
After rumors of an event on September 8, Apple confirmed the date of September 15 with a cute augmented reality logo in the invitation emailed to the press. It’s already sparked some speculation (blue color on phones? Smoother refresh rate displays?), Along with the event’s tagline, Time Flies:

What we’ve heard from Bloomberg Mark Gurman is that the iPhone 12 might not be revealed until October, which suggests it won’t even appear at the September 15 event.
‘Time Flies’ may be the subtle hint that only the Apple Watch 6 and other devices (perhaps the iPad Air 4, as has been rumored) will be announced.
iPhone 12
Given that Apple typically reveals its range of iPhones in September of previous years, we were hoping that the iPhone 12 would be available to be announced at the Time Flies Apple event. But that might not be the case.
Gurman elaborated his claim in a Bloomberg report, explaining that the phones won’t even launch until October. However, the phone’s new software, iOS 14, is due out in September and compatible iPhones (iPhone 6S and later) will be available for download.
The iPhone 12 will have a new design, updated cameras and 5G support, according to the Bloomberg report. Rumors and leaks in recent months have outlined what we expect in Apple’s upcoming flagship phones, including a square-edged metal casing that we haven’t seen since the iPhone 5S, but which was recently reintroduced on the latest iPad Pro. Models.
We also expect four different iPhone 12 models: two cheaper and less feature-rich devices similar to the iPhone 11 (which come in 5.4 and 6.1-inch screen sizes) and two more expensive versions (in 6-inch and 6-inch). 7 inches). inches) which will likely be the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max. We anticipate that one or both of the more expensive models will be compatible with 5G, but not the most affordable pair.
Apple watch 6
We had heard various rumors that the Apple Watch 6 would be revealed in early September, but on the date we expected to see it revealed, Apple announced the Time Flies event. Alright, and with a name like that, we can assume we’ll see the smartwatch unveiled on September 15.
We don’t expect the Apple Watch 6 to differ drastically from its predecessor, but rumors suggest some features that could make their way to the smartwatch. It’s most likely an SpO2 sensor for tracking blood oxygen levels, which a number of other wearable devices have come with in 2020, like the Samsung Galaxy Watch 3.
More outlandish predictions include a patent that suggests the wearable might have a Touch ID fingerprint scanner inside the display. Another rumor hints that the watch might even come with a temperature sensor.
iPad Air 4
Rumors suggested that the iPad Air 4 would debut in September alongside the Apple Watch 6, and we expect it to be revealed at the Apple Event. Of all the devices that could be released, this is what we look forward to the most after Apple’s next smartwatch.
While we don’t expect drastic improvements to the iPad Air 3, the iPad Air 4 could ditch the Lightning port for USB-C and expand from a 10.5-inch screen size to an 11-inch screen, both moves that mimic the latest iPad Pro. .
Other possible features include switching from Touch ID on the home button to Face ID for biometric authentication, and possibly removing the home button entirely, although the leaks disagree on whether that will happen.
According to the rumor, the iPad Air 4 could have four stereo speakers and have the same A14 equivalent chipset that will appear in the iPhone 12.
We’ve been waiting for Apple AirTags for some time, and since they weren’t revealed at WWDC 2020, September’s Apple Event is the next chance to see Apple’s version of Tile-like follow-up accessories. It could have been the plan all along, like leakage suggested that a dedicated AirTags app would be part of iOS 14, which could be released after the show.
We have heard some rumors about how the devices will work; Like Tile, it will supposedly be able to track an AirTag (and ergo, whatever it is attached to, like keys or a bag) via an iOS app.
But rumors point to other tracking capabilities, such as AR capabilities that allow users to point their cameras to find digital balloons, representing misplaced AirTags that are within range of their iPhone. But what if it’s out of reach? The rumored ‘Lost Mode’ uses other iPhones as a mesh network to ping the lost AirTag.
Anything else?
It is possible that we are completely wrong in our previous predictions and that something completely different in the event will surprise us.
So far, it seems almost certain that we will see a new Apple Watch and a new iPad at the event, but Apple may have plans to introduce something entirely different instead.
