Apple’s iPhone 12 problems are mounting with growing reports of green-tinted screens, signal drops, and high battery drain, but now the company has confirmed a serious new iPhone issue that requires a recall.
Apple has acknowledged that “a small percentage of iPhone 11 screens may become unresponsive to touch due to a problem with the display module.” The company announced a replacement program and confirmed that the affected devices were manufactured over a six-month period between November 2019 and May 2020.
Apple didn’t put a number on its “small percentage,” but with nearly 40 million iPhone 11 units sold between January and June 2020, it only takes a small percentage to add up to millions of units. If your iPhone 11 exhibits haptic feedback problems, you can enter its serial number on the replacement program page to check if it is eligible for repair.
Eligible iPhone 11 units can be repaired by an Apple Authorized Service Provider, Official Retail Store, or through the company’s mail-in repair service. Watch out for Apple states:
“If your iPhone 11 has any damage that affects the ability to complete the repair, such as a broken screen, that issue will need to be resolved prior to service. In some cases, there may be a cost associated with the additional repair. “
Consequently, if you thought this was an opportunity to fix your iPhone 11’s broken screen for free, think again. And if you ship an affected iPhone 11 with even minor cracks on the screen, be prepared to receive a bill for its replacement as part of the touchscreen repair process. On the other hand, Apple notes “If you think your iPhone 11 was affected by this problem and you paid to repair your device, you can contact Apple to request a refund.
Apple’s famous high-quality control seems to have slipped in recent years. Green screens were also an issue with the iPhone 11, while the quality of the official iPhone 12 cases has been called along with the other current iPhone 12 hardware and software issues.
With leaks revealing that Apple will make radical changes to the iPhone lineup next year, anyone still undecided about the update may want to wait for now.
