Prince William, second in line to the British throne, tested positive for the coronavirus in April, when cases in the United Kingdom began to increase exponentially, but kept his diagnosis a secret to avoid concerns about his condition, according to reports from the British media.
Key facts
According to Sun, which first reported the story, the Duke of Cambridge became infected with the coronavirus in April.
His diagnosis reportedly came just days after two other powerful British men tested positive – Prime Minister Boris Johnson and William’s own father and heir to the throne, Prince Charles, according to Sun.
William thought announcing his own diagnosis would only cause alarm, an anonymous source told the newspaper, so the palace was silent on his diagnosis.
Kensington Palace declined to comment to both Sun Y the BBC, according to the points of sale.
Key Background
The UK has recorded more than 1 million confirmed coronavirus cases and nearly 47,000 deaths according to a Johns Hopkins University tracker. A recent spike in new infections has prompted the government to announce a second lockdown in England, starting this week.
