Amber Heard condemns ‘paid campaign’ to get her out of Aquaman sequel

Amber Heard has condemned a “paid campaign” to remove her from the Aquaman sequel.

Heard’s role as Aquaman’s love interest Hera has been at the center of speculation following the release of a petition to have her removed from the next film.

The petition, which has received more than a million signatures, was created by fans of Heard’s ex-husband, Johnny Depp, and accuses the actor of a “systematic crusade to ruin Depp in Hollywood.”

Heard has long accused Depp of domestic violence, something that Depp has denied. After suing Sun News Group Newspapers publisher and executive editor Dan Wootton for referring to him as a “wife beater” in a column, Depp lost the case earlier this month. A British judge declared the claim to be “substantially true”.

However, Heard has denied that the outcome of Depp’s trial had any impact on his own franchise and confirmed that he will film the sequel in 2021.

“Paid rumors and paid campaigns on social media don’t dictate [casting decisions] because they have no basis in reality, “Heard said in a statement to Weekly entertainment. “Only the fans really did Aquaman Y Aquaman 2 happen. I’m excited to start next year. “

In a statement last week, Depp called the British court’s decision on his case “surreal” and said he plans to appeal the verdict. “My life and my career will not be defined at this time,” he added.
