Apple’s AirPods Studios are delayed due to design issues, according to a new report detailing the company’s progress on its next generation of audible products.
While the AirPods 3 and AirPods Pro 2 headphones are on track for a 2021 release, the fate of Apple’s debut on-ear headphones is uncertain. Bloomberg reports that headband issues have once again pushed back the possible release of these highly anticipated cans.
According to Bloomberg, Apple scheduled AirPods Studio production “weeks ago,” but a source familiar with the testing said the headband felt too tight. Additionally, Bloomberg said the rumored features have been “downgraded.”
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman was the first to report that AirPods Studio would come with interchangeable ear pads and headphone pads in April. In this update, the Apple whistleblower said that some of the planned interchangeable features won’t happen.
Instead of including interchangeable ear pads and headphone cushions, AirPods Studio may only support interchangeable ear pads. The size of the touch pads on either side of the headphones is also smaller than initially proposed.
Apple has yet to acknowledge AirPods Studio, despite rumors that the earbuds will launch alongside the iPhone 12 and Apple Watch 6 lineup. Before both launch events, leaker Jon Prosser said the earbuds would start at $ 329 and they were almost ready to ship.
Closer to the launch of the iPhone 12, Prosser said Apple has held AirPods Studio. Now, this Bloomberg report gives a better idea of why Bose’s premium rivals will arrive later than originally expected.
