Call of Duty is a huge business for Activision – the company just announced that it has made more than $ 3 billion from the franchise in the last 12 months.

In a press release, Activision said it had switched to a “shared ecosystem business model” for Call of Duty, which has seen the launch of Battle Royale Warzone, the mobile hit Call of Duty: Mobile, and Call of Duty: Black. Cold ops. war this year.

The mention of a “shared ecosystem” relates to the rise of Warzone and the integration of Modern Warfare and Black Ops Cold War into it. Starting in mid-December, Black Ops Cold War and Warzone share the Battle Pass progression, and you’ll be able to level up and get XP no matter what game you play.

The $ 3 billion figure is the net amount of products and services sold digitally or physically sold during the past 12 months and includes license fees, merchandise and publisher incentives, Activision said.

Has the PS5 changed the way we play single player games forever?

Net reserves (revenue, essentially) increased more than 80 percent, and units sold increased more than 40 percent year-over-year. Activision said that more than 200 million people have played Call of Duty this year.

Much of the success of Call of Duty this year is due to free-to-download Warzone (which has now surpassed 85 million players since its launch in early 2020), as well as Call of Duty: Mobile. But Infinity Ward’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has continued to perform well throughout the year after a strong launch in late 2019. Activision did not announce how many copies Black Ops Cold War sold.
