Race preview
Max Verstappen claimed the first non-Mercedes pole position of the season ahead of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix and is determined to clinch victory for the first time in 2020.
“I said before going to qualifying that it would be the final shipment of the season and we did it,” he said. “Very happy with that.
“It was a difficult qualifying at the beginning to do the laps, but fortunately everything went well on that last lap.
“All year round when you’re late getting closer, sometimes it gets a little frustrating. But very happy with today.”
Meanwhile, Lewis Hamilton has said that it has taken him a while to get back on track in his Mercedes.
Hamilton said: “Honestly, I am very grateful to be back here with the team and trying to close out the strong season that we have had.
“It was a tough weekend to get back on track. It was only a couple of weeks away, but I felt like I had lost momentum.
“I struggled with balance all weekend, but congratulations to Max, a great way to seal the season. But we will give them a hot run tomorrow.
“It’s always good to start first and this makes it even more exciting.”
