A word of warning about your Amazon PS5 and Xbox Series X pre-orders

[ad_1]

As the world’s largest online retailer, it made sense that millions of people were trying to order PS5 and Xbox Series X through Amazon during launch over the past two weeks. And while Amazon’s site seemed to be in better working order most of the time than its rivals online, if you managed to pre-order a next-gen console from there, you’ve probably been disturbed by a recent email. I have received from them:

“We are contacting you regarding your (PlayStation 5 / Xbox Series X / S) order to inform you in advance that this item may not be received on release day due to high demand. We are doing our best with the supplier to get more inventory. We will provide additional updates once more information is available. “

A wave of these died down when PS5 pre-orders were made, then I heard some people bought them for Xbox almost as soon as they ordered one. Mine arrived yesterday for my X Series, three days after I placed the order. If you haven’t received one yet, you will probably get it soon.

It’s not uncommon for retailers to miss delivery on launch day, which is why in-store pickup, when you can manage it, might be a preferred option (if we weren’t, you know, in a pandemic where we would wait in a giant row was not a bad idea). But with Amazon, you can’t do that, and you’re also being more vague about when these consoles will actually arrive.

My Target PS5, for example, gives me an estimated date of November 12 (the actual release date) to November 14. But Amazon? Everyone receives this email, and when you click on the links to try to find an actual date, you simply get the message “We will email you when we have an estimated delivery date.” Is that a day later? A week later? One month? Nobody knows.

I didn’t want to pre-order from Amazon for this reason, but the Xbox Series X pre-order status was a total mess and it was the only place I could get to work after 90 minutes of trying and they were sold out in seconds. in other places. .

I guess I’m not missing Halo Infinite launch day since that game has been revealed, but if I were to say, I’m looking to download and play Destiny 2’s Beyond Light expansion on Game Pass that day in Series X, the same day. launches, it seems that it will not be possible if there are delays in shipping.

We hope we are all waiting for an additional email with an actual or upcoming release date. But between the pandemic and the huge interest in next-gen consoles resulting in these instant sales and indeed overselling at retailers, I won’t be surprised if there is some drama with the PS5 and Xbox delivery much later. than anyone expected when they made their initial pre-orders. And given all the great games released that week tied to those exact release dates, that’s not a great situation at all. Stay tuned for more ominous email updates.
