Former Aston Villa player Gabby Agbonlahor believes Jack Grealish will reject a move to Manchester United in the summer transfer window.

United are eager for the Aston Villa captain this year as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks to add a new attack option to his first-team squad.

MEN Sport understands that the 24-year-old midfielder beat James Maddison on United’s transfer wish list and is seen as the most accessible option at the end of the season.

However, Agbonlahor believes that Grealish will stay in Villa Park beyond the summer and has jokingly urged the owners of the club to turn off their phones so that they do not consider the possibility of his leaving.

“I think he (will stay),” Agbonlahor told the Claret & Blue podcast. “I know everyone is 50/50 but I think he will because the club is built around him.”

“Villa will stay awake and the club will build around him again.

“He is the captain and is still posting photos of him at the academy when he started when he was six years old.

“He is similar to me, I had opportunities to leave but, when the club means a lot to you, the grass is not always greener.”

“I think he will stay but I can’t speak for him, it’s his decision.”

“If I owned Aston Villa right now, I would just turn off my phone! If a player who is as crucial to his team, as Jack is to Aston Villa, for results, I will not sell him.”

“Selling a player of Jack’s caliber is going to cost you a lot more in the long run. You can get a lot for him, but you have to stay in the Premier League no matter what, that’s where the money is.”

“For me, I turn off my phone in the summer if I am the owner of the Villa and when the transfer window ends I turn it on again so that it cannot move.”

“That’s what he would do. Fingers crossed stay. It all depends on him.”
