Graeme Souness knows a good player when he sees one – so it’s fair to say his opinion is well-respected in the world of football.
And the legendary Scotsman has given his verdict on the greatest player of all-time, though his decision is sure to raise a few eyebrows.
Listing his top five greatest players ever for Sky Sports, the former Liverpool hero went for French World Cup winner and current Real Madrid manger Zinedine Zidane in fifth spot.
Sitting above Zidane in fourth is Maradona, the iconic Argentina hero widely regarded as the finest player of his generation.
In third spot was Brazilian icon Pele, meaning it was a battle between familiar foes Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi for top spot.

It’s perhaps no surprise that Souness did not include Pogba in his top five, having been highly critical of the Manchester United star this season.
Pogba has been the target of a number of Souness rants over the years, with the Scot regularly hitting out at what he considers to be below-par performances from the Frenchman
Pogba was recently given the opportunity to respond to Souness, and claimed he didn’t know who the three-time Champions League winner was.
Souness responded with the jibe: “Put your medals on the table,” but Pogba ended the dispute there, choosing not to reply to the 66-year-old.
Former United hero Rio Ferdinand was recently asked for his thoughts on the spat, and claimed if he had been in Pogba’s shoes he’d have gone in harder on Souness and shown him disrespect.
I’ve told The Beautiful Game Podcast: “For Paul Pogba to say he doesn’t know who [Souness] is or wouldn’t know him as a footballer, I believe that.
“It’s not disrespectful, he doesn’t know him. As great a player as Souness was – he was a top player, one of the best.
“If you were talking about the best British midfielders we’ve produced, he’s in the conversation, 100 per cent, Graeme Souness was a good player.
“But Paul Pogba doesn’t know him. Simple as that, and that’s the difference of generations. I don’t think it’s disrespectful.
“If I was Paul Pogba, I’d say the same thing, but I would have said it from a disrespectful standpoint. Because I’d be saying, ‘you’ve been dissing me all this time and I’ve not kicked a ball, why are you talking about me? “
